Intuition and experimentation are at the heart of Kate Stewart’s studio practice. Her work encompasses painting, drawing, textiles, collage, sculpture, public murals, and sitespecific installations. Across these varied modes, recurring formal elements echo Tantric visual traditions, investigations into neural activity during shifting states of consciousness, and the waveforms explored in sound studies.

Stewart’s process is guided by spontaneity and improvisation, welcoming unpredictability, allowing space for surprise and discovery. A rhythm of “call and response” unfolds as the work develops: time dissolves, and aesthetic decisions seem to arise almost beyond conscious control.
