RECENT PAINTINGS
Seonglan Kim Boyce

July 2 - 28, 2019

This exhibition features minimalist abstract paintings by The Delaware Contemporary studio artist, Seonglan Kim Boyce. These works will be traveling to the Louis L. Redding Gallery, 800 N. French Street, Wilmington, DE 19801 August 2 - November 27, 2019.

Emerging from the cool blue, gray and white terrain of Kim Boyce's canvasses are sharp-edged rectangles that punctuate the surface with bold and warm tones of red, yellow and orange. Her highly geometric demarcations of space reveal Boyce's minimalist but playful sensibilities with her relationship to color and space. The use of hard lines and shapes generates further segmentation of the canvas as negative space becomes positive space.

Minimalist painting is Kim Boyce's way of reconfiguring nature and memory into a form that reconciles with temporal dislocation as much as it reinforces it. Her work is often spurred by the recollection of a specific place that continues to exist in different permutations with each new set of eyes that encounters the finished work.
