Seonglan Kim Boyce

Seonglang Kim Boyce is an abstract painter who draws inspiration from the physical wonders, rhythm, subtlety, power, and spirit of nature.

Her work often starts with a memory of a specific space, providing structural references and emotional content through which she constructs a space that is even, balanced, immediate and open. The observation of nature and the recollection of a specific place, are reconfigured and refined into an abstraction representing the essence of a moment.

She utilizes simple and delicate geometric shapes on neutral backgrounds to highlight the equalizing force of natural elements. Each composition mindfully balances the relationships of individual components while emphasizing the uniqueness of a color, the length and thickness of lines and the dimension of planes. All spaces, including the negative space, are brought to the surface or foreground, thereby minimizing a sense of pictorial depth and creating a feeling of immediacy or place in each composition.

Boyce’s work has been exhibited in Philadelphia and throughout the Wilmington region. She maintains a studio at The Delaware Contemporary where she regularly exhibits in the Elizabeth Denison Hatch Gallery.
