IN COMMUNION

Group Exhibition

June 9 - August 27, 2023

OPENING EVENT: June 9, 2023 | 5 - 9 PM

Rosalyn Richards

As society speeds towards an ultra modern future driven by convenience and technology, we are drawn further away from the intuitive nature of simplistic forms such as color, line, and shape. These foundational characteristics have been integral in artists’ interpretation of subject, emotion, and human experience since the earliest discoveries of man made compositions. Art appreciation models have been founded on these guiding indicators meant to help decipher the narratives of those who wield the brush and palette, and are the point of origin for vanguard genres such as Abstraction and Cubism.

With this selection of artists we take a step back into human nature, the driving force behind much of the innovation we witness in the forum of today’s culture. Each nonrepresentational artist uses these forms as an extension of their hand to craft works that garner not only a visceral response but a synesthesia of sorts, empowering the viewer to experience the emotions of each artwork through fundamental tools of the trade. Taking a step back from contemporary trends of imagining the future, the curation of this gallery moves against the need to know what lies ahead. Ranging from colorful abstractions to sculptural forms, the artwork encourages one to be present in space and in communion with material, reimagining the way we perceive progression. In a world still in shock from a public health crisis and social revolution, now more than ever we have realized the future is ever changing and infinite. But what remains most important is honoring the emotions, traditions, and people we admire while they are still here.
