Panel Discussion:

This panel will explore the rapidly evolving world of generative AI and its intersection with intellectual property law. The program will begin with an accessible overview of how generative AI tools function, providing attendees with a clear understanding of the technology’s foundations. From there, the discussion will dive into the legal challenges that arise when AI interacts with copyright law, including questions of authorship, originality, and ownership. The panel will also address the ethical dimensions of generative AI in the creative process, considering issues such as bias, accountability, and the broader implications for artists and society. Some of the key issues that will be addressed:

  • The foundations of how generative AI operates.

  • The intellectual property issues that arise in connection with AI-generated works.

  • How user input into generative AI systems influences copyright outcomes.

  • Fair use questions surrounding training AI algorithms.
