Give to The Delaware Contemporary

Dear Valued Supporter,

Forty years ago on July 2, 1979 The Delaware Contemporary (then the Delaware Center for Contemporary Art) was incorporated by New Castle County and our proud history of connecting people and art through dynamic exhibitions and relevant outreach was set into motion.

Since then, The Delaware Contemporary has maintained a trajectory of making diverse and personal connections with art. We have grown the institution to be internationally recognized for its innovative approach to programming. Your past financial support helped us exhibit thousands of artists, tour hundreds of school groups, collaborate with over 100 community organizations, and provide learning opportunities for artists of all kinds.

As we move into the next forty years, we urge you to renew your support. Our work is not done. We see the potential for further growth through expanding our audience for art, increasing opportunities for artists, looking for partners beyond the scope of visual arts, and building a creative future for our youth. But we cannot do it without your help.

Between today and July 2nd we are campaigning to reach a goal of $40,000. If successful, we will be positioned to launch our fall programming with major public engagement initiatives. Specifically, funds will be used to support our efforts to:

Increase opportunities for artists

  • Increased number juried and submission-based exhibitions

  • Representation in the Gallery Shop

Present a series of unusual pairing events

  • Collaborative events with new and unexpected partners (i.e. chess, outdoors, craft food and beverage, extreme sports, lifestyle and wellness)

Build a creative future for our youth

  • Immersing teens in art to develop life long skills

  • Connecting teens with creative industry professionals to expand career possibilities

Expand our purview of art beyond the visual

  • Events and exhibitions featuring fashion, animation, and design

  • Performances, dances, spoken word and ensembles in the galleries

We are thankful for our donors and your loyalty and enthusiasm. Thanks to your contributions, we have made huge strides in our institution’s stability and are well positioned to move these exciting initiatives forward. We would be most grateful for your continued support of The Delaware Contemporary’s significant role in the cultural landscape of Wilmington and our commitment to the arts.

promotes life long connections with the art of our day by bridging:

artists AND collectors

“In a world of hashtags, algorithms, and followers, I feel human connection is more important now than ever. My ”Blackout” exhibition was an opportunity for me to speak to basic human needs through familiar textures, shapes and objects, free from the distraction of color. Each piece holds a message that reminds us of our similarities rather than our differences. The image of me with young art collector Anahi captured a profound moment when I realized how the immeasurable power of art combined with human connection can shape young minds and inspire a lifelong love of art.”
